We caught up with Sandeep, owner of Blushgreen, to get her take on what truly sets certified organic and natural makeup apart.

“For us, it’s absolutely non-negotiable. We source all our ingredients from organic farms, ensuring they’re grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers. We also steer clear of GMOs and avoid artificial additives altogether.”

In recent years, more and more people have begun paying closer attention to what they put on their skin. This shift in awareness has sparked a real boom in the popularity of certified organic and natural makeup. But what’s actually behind the trend, and is there a genuine difference between these two categories?

To get a closer look at what makes these products special, we spoke to Sandeep Gill, the owner of Blushgreen, a brand passionate about clean beauty. According to Sandeep, certified organic makeup sets the gold standard for those aiming to keep things as pure and natural as possible. “For us, it’s non-negotiable. Our ingredients are sourced from organic farms, grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers. Plus, we avoid GMOs and artificial additives entirely,” Sandeep explains.

“Our mission at Blushgreen is to offer more than just products—we’re committed to full transparency, ethical sourcing, and making sustainability the heart of everything we do,” says Sandeep, owner of Blushgreen.

Blushgreen – Certification Process

She also emphasises the importance of the certification process: “A third-party body like COSMOS, Ecocert, or the Soil Association checks every stage – from how the ingredients are grown to how the finished product is made. When you see a ‘certified organic’ label, you know the claims have been thoroughly vetted and the product meets strict international standards.”

For many, the appeal of organic and natural makeup goes beyond simply avoiding chemical nasties – it’s about supporting sustainability and being kinder to the planet, too. Organic farming methods tend to be gentler on the environment, promoting healthier soil, reduced pollution, and better biodiversity. Plus, brands that go the extra mile for certification often care about their overall eco-footprint, using recyclable packaging and ethical sourcing policies.

At the end of the day, whether you go for certified organic or just natural, it’s all about making choices that align with your values and your skin’s needs. Just remember: not all ‘natural’ products are created equal, so a bit of label-reading goes a long way.

Blushgreen – Blog

What really impressed me about Blushgreen is that their blog goes beyond just showcasing products—it offers genuine advice and guides customers through the process behind clean beauty. The website itself is a breeze to navigate, and I have to say, the checkout process is equally seamless. Their clean-lined, earth-toned branding creates a welcoming online retail space setting. With their presence on both Amazon and Shopify, it’s clear they’ve set their sights firmly on success.

In this interview, we learn more about Blushgreen’s product range and uncover Sandeep’s inspiring vision for the brand. Sandeep reveals not only what goes into each product but also the passion for transparency, ethical sourcing, and sustainability that drives every decision at Blushgreen. From prioritising certified organic ingredients to championing eco-conscious packaging, Sandeep’s commitment shines through—making Blushgreen a standout choice for anyone seeking clean beauty with integrity.

Interview

Blushgreen Cosmetics – The Journey

What inspired you to start Blushgreen, and how did your vision for clean beauty take shape?

Beauty has always been a huge part of my life. My passion for makeup began when I was just 16 years old. After completing a one-year professional makeup artistry course, I qualified as a professional makeup artist at the age of 16. From that moment, I fell in love with how makeup could enhance confidence and allow people to express themselves. Although my career later took me into accounting, where I worked for a multinational beauty company, I never let go of my passion. Alongside my full-time accounting role, I continued working as a part-time and weekend makeup artist, keeping that passion alive while gaining valuable experience in both the beauty and business worlds. At the same time, I struggled with extremely sensitive skin and found that many conventional foundations caused irritation and allergic reactions, leaving me frustrated that I couldn’t enjoy makeup like everyone else.

Sensitive Skin

During the COVID-19 lockdown, when people around the world were becoming more conscious about natural and organic products, I began researching cosmetic ingredient labels to understand why my skin reacted so badly. I also realised there was very little choice for genuinely natural, high-quality makeup available in the UK at that time, particularly products that catered to sensitive skin without compromising on performance. The more I learned, the more I felt this was my calling. I attended international beauty exhibitions in Italy, Las Vegas and London, where I met the supplier who shared my vision for clean beauty. That was the moment the idea for Blushgreen was born. After two years of research, development and testing, I proudly launched Blushgreen in 2023—a brand created to offer beautiful, high-performing makeup made with certified organic ingredients that people can trust.

Can you walk us through the process of sourcing your certified organic ingredients and why that’s so important to you?

From the beginning, I knew that ingredient quality would never be something I would compromise on. Finding the right manufacturing partner wasn’t simply about producing cosmetics—it was about working with experts who shared my commitment to certified organic, ethically sourced and skin-friendly ingredients. I spent a great deal of time researching suppliers, attending international trade shows and asking detailed questions about certifications, ingredient origins and manufacturing standards before making any decisions.

As someone with sensitive skin, I understand how important trust is when choosing beauty products. Every ingredient we use is carefully selected for its quality, safety and effectiveness, ensuring our products are gentle without sacrificing performance. Using certified organic ingredients isn’t just a marketing decision for Blushgreen—it’s part of our promise to customers that they can enjoy beautiful makeup while knowing exactly what they’re putting on their skin.

How does Blushgreen ensure full transparency for customers curious about what goes into each product?

Transparency is one of the values that Blushgreen was built upon because I know first-hand how confusing ingredient labels can be. Before starting the brand, I spent countless hours researching cosmetic ingredients to understand what was causing my own skin reactions. That experience taught me that customers deserve honest information rather than complicated terminology or misleading marketing claims.

That’s why we clearly list our ingredients and are always open about how our products are formulated. We want customers to feel confident and informed when purchasing from Blushgreen. If someone has questions about a particular ingredient or whether a product is suitable for sensitive skin, we are always happy to provide guidance because building trust is just as important as creating beautiful makeup.

Sustainability is clearly a core value for Blushgreen—what steps do you take to minimise your environmental impact, both in packaging and production?

For me, sustainability isn’t something that can be added later—it has to be considered from the very beginning. As Blushgreen was being developed, I wanted every decision, from formulation to packaging, to reflect our responsibility towards the environment. We work closely with manufacturers who follow responsible production practices and who understand the importance of reducing unnecessary waste wherever possible.

We also carefully consider our packaging choices by selecting materials that are more environmentally conscious while still protecting the quality of our products. As a growing independent brand, we know sustainability is a continuous journey rather than a destination. We are always looking for new ways to improve our environmental impact while maintaining the premium quality our customers expect.

What challenges have you faced in maintaining ethical sourcing, and how have you overcome them?

One of the biggest challenges has been finding suppliers who genuinely meet the high standards I set for Blushgreen. It’s easy for businesses to make claims about being natural or sustainable, but I wanted to work with partners who could demonstrate those values through recognised certifications, ethical sourcing practices and consistent product quality. That meant taking my time, asking difficult questions and never rushing important decisions.

Building these relationships required patience, but it has been worth it. By visiting international beauty exhibitions and speaking directly with manufacturers, I was able to find partners who shared my vision for clean beauty. Maintaining ethical sourcing is an ongoing commitment, and we regularly review our suppliers to ensure they continue to meet the standards that both Blushgreen and our customers expect.

For someone new to natural and organic makeup, what makes Blushgreen’s products stand out from the crowd?

Blushgreen was created by someone who truly understands the challenges of sensitive skin because I’ve experienced them myself. I know how disappointing it is to buy makeup that promises beautiful results but leaves your skin feeling irritated. That’s why every product is designed to combine skin-friendly ingredients with professional-quality performance, so customers never feel they have to choose between the two.

I also believe Blushgreen stands out because of the care and passion behind the brand. This isn’t simply a business opportunity—it was built from a personal journey that started with my own skin concerns and grew into a mission to help others enjoy makeup with confidence. Every product reflects the values of honesty, quality and wellbeing that inspired me to create the brand in the first place.

Looking ahead, what are your hopes and plans for Blushgreen and the clean beauty industry as a whole?

My vision for Blushgreen is to continue growing into a trusted clean beauty brand that people recognise for both quality and integrity. I want to expand our product range with innovative organic formulations that meet the needs of customers with all skin types, especially those with sensitive skin. As the business grows, I also hope to reach more international markets while staying true to the values that inspired the brand from day one.

More broadly, I hope the clean beauty industry continues to move towards greater transparency, higher standards, and genuine sustainability rather than simply following trends. Consumers are becoming more informed and deserve products that are both effective and responsibly made. I believe Blushgreen can play a small but meaningful role in shaping that future by proving that beautiful makeup can also be kind to your skin, ethical in its ingredients, and respectful of our planet.

AI Models vs. Physical Models – Fashion’s New Face-Off. AI models—digital avatars—are now appearing in campaigns and on runways.

AI Models vs. Physical Models - Fashion’s New Face-Off

Think of advertising campaigns, commercials, and even film roles—making the introduction of AI into both spheres more relevant and controversial than ever.

AI Models – World Of Fashion

In the glossy world of fashion, change is always in vogue. The latest disruptor? Artificial Intelligence (AI) models—digital avatars created by algorithms—are strutting onto runways and into advertising campaigns, challenging the traditional dominance of flesh-and-blood models. This technological evolution is raising questions: Will AI become the industry’s trusted friend or turn into a foe for creativity and employment?

Meteoric Rise

I’ll admit, I’ve never been an avid fan of AI. Yet, I can’t ignore its meteoric rise and the almost invisible way it has woven itself into the fabric of our everyday lives, from the ads we see to the trends we follow. The fashion world, of course, is no exception.

What’s more, the modelling industry often overlaps with acting—think of advertising campaigns, commercials, and even film roles—making the introduction of AI into both spheres more relevant and controversial than ever. Suddenly, the line between technology and artistry is being redrawn before our eyes, and the debate over AI’s role in these creative spaces has never felt so urgent or so personal.

AI Models – Regulation And Protection

In the US, California and New York laws have changed to protect performers from having their voices, style, and likeness copied by generative AI. Organisations like SAG-AFTRA have also begun drafting agreements to protect these creative rights.

This raises an important question: Should similar laws be established across the UK and Europe to protect models from malicious practices that could exploit their image in the same way?

Shudu, called the “world’s first digital supermodel,” collaborated with Balmain and Fenty Beauty, proving brands don’t care if a face is real — as long as it moves products (Source BBC)

We have yet to fully understand the impact—or potential harm—of this technology. Already, AI models are shaping social media trends. While some age groups have dismissed these digital figures as harmless or irrelevant, a younger generation is quietly adapting to a new normal that deserves our attention and concern.

The Rise of AI Models

AI models, like Shudu and Lil Miquela, are hyper-realistic digital creations designed to embody the latest trends. Brands can tailor these avatars to fit any aesthetic, mood, or demographic, and deploy them instantly across global campaigns. Unlike physical models, AI models don’t need rest, can operate around the clock, and are immune to human limitations such as fatigue or illness. This efficiency is enticing for brands looking to cut costs and maximise output.

Data is king. After years of clutching our phones, tapping on screens, and allowing our every step to be tracked, tech companies know more about us than ever. Cookies on our browsers can predict our desires before we even act. AI models, powered by these algorithms, can target and respond to our preferences in ways that feel almost bespoke.

Advantages for the Fashion Industry

AI models offer unprecedented versatility. Designers can visualise clothing on any body type, ethnicity, or age, challenging traditional beauty standards. Digital models also reduce the carbon footprint associated with travel, fittings, and photoshoots, aligning with the industry’s growing sustainability goals. For emerging brands, AI models are a cost-effective way to create high-quality content without a large budget.

Diversity is a hot topic among designers, and many argue that algorithms can help generate a more inclusive approach to fashion. But isn’t this conversation a bit academic? What about the human touch—the way we connect, interact, and communicate with empathy? Shouldn’t we pause to consider how these changes might affect our shared experience and the narrative of fashion itself?

The Human Touch: Irreplaceable or Obsolete?

But there’s a flip side. Physical models bring personality, spontaneity, and unique presence to the runway—qualities that AI, for now, can only approximate. There are concerns that widespread adoption could lead to job losses for human models and creatives, and possibly homogenise fashion by favouring algorithmic perfection over authentic diversity. Moreover, the emotional connection between consumers and real people may be difficult to replicate digitally.

Perfection

Our pursuit of perfection might ultimately work against us, but only time will tell. For now, it’s clear that larger fashion houses—with the resources to invest in expensive software—have free rein to use algorithms to dominate the market, often leaving smaller brands at a technological disadvantage. As an observer, I don’t see this as entirely negative. Smaller fashion houses continue to value the human touch, emphasising a physical presence and embracing imperfection as a unique advantage amid the rise of machines.

Friend or Foe?

AI models are neither inherently friend nor foe. They are powerful tools whose impact will depend on how the industry uses them. When thoughtfully integrated, AI models can complement physical models, offering new creative possibilities and making fashion more inclusive and sustainable. However, if used solely to cut costs or replace human artistry, they risk eroding the soul of fashion.

The Verdict

The future of modelling may be a harmonious blend in which AI and physical models share the spotlight. As technology evolves, the fashion industry will need to balance innovation with authenticity—ensuring that, whether digital or human, the models representing brands continue to inspire, challenge, and move us.

AI is already woven into the fabric of our lives and industries. Whether it ultimately becomes our ally or adversary is a story only the future can write.

Three – A Magic Number

I wanted to know if any fans made outlandish requests. Suffice to say, that there was.

Helen: “Someone messaged me to say Are you wearing your leather trousers tonight and I said No, I’m wearing my sequin hot pants. They were the first ones through the door at 7 pm.

Your music sounds more confident as an artist. Is that because you’re now with a label or experience kicking in?

Helen: Both, I think – I’ve been performing on stage for a year now, and I have developed a huge amount in that year. Having fans and label support has really boosted my confidence. I’m learning to vibe and connect with the audience, and that is hugely rewarding.

You had a setback with a relationship; did it impact your music in any way?

Helen: The break-up was really a big blow to me. I thought I couldn’t get up again. But I did.

I noticed that you have a lovely, refined accent. Where did that come from?

Helen: “Grammar school girl!”

When are you most creative?

Helen: Nighttime. I often wake up at 3 am precisely with a lyric or tune in my head.

Are you planning to tour?

Helen: The plan is the 2nd album sometime in 2026, then tour throughout the year, including festivals.

Fashion's Secret Weapon - Asal Rastgou

In the dynamic world of fashion, where every detail counts, makeup artists play a pivotal role in bringing designers’ visions to life. Among the talented individuals making waves in this industry is Asal Rastgou, a makeup artist renowned for her exceptional ability to create looks that perfectly align with the thematic aspirations of designers. Her work not only enhances the beauty of the models but also harmonises with the overall aesthetic of fashion shows, making her an invaluable asset to any runway presentation.

Fashion Show

It was just a year ago, on the eve of this very day in 2024, that I found myself at the Pierre Garoudi fashion show. As I stepped into the venue, I was instantly engulfed by a whirlwind of activity—photographers hustling around, busy with positioning their cameras and adjusting lighting to capture the perfect shot.

Fashion’s Opportunity

With my iPhone clutched tightly in my hand, I set out on a mission to encapsulate the essence of the event. The fashion show was brilliantly orchestrated, showcasing a stunning array of designs flaunted by a diverse group of striking models. Each outfit seemed to tell its own story, and I felt as giddy as a child in a candy store as I rushed from one runway moment to the next.

At the end of the evening, in my eagerness, I manoeuvred between established photographers, occasionally interrupting them to snag Instagram handles from the countless models who glided by. Amidst this flurry, I was drawn to a particular person who embodied an essential part of the show’s energy. I seized the opportunity to strike up a conversation. What felt like an hour of deep and meaningful exchange was, in truth, barely a few fleeting minutes—but those moments were rich, filled with insight that remained long after our brief interaction ended.

Asal demonstrates exactly what to do with her editorial. With over 65,000 followers and being an influencer in her own right, she posted this on Instagram today.

Models have various tools at their disposal, but their goal is to create pathways that increase demand and generate new opportunities.

Transforming your job title from Model to Published Model can be a game-changer, especially when you’re just starting out. This small adjustment can open doors to exciting new opportunities and help you stand out in a competitive industry!

Models Inc - A Published Model

As a press journalist navigating the bustling circuit of the media industry, I’ve witnessed firsthand the intense competition that defines this field. The rise of Instagram has transformed it into a vast showcase filled with stunning visuals, where creators tirelessly produce captivating content daily. Everything now hinges on one’s ability to fit within the rigid parameters of a reel template, highlighting the pressure to conform to stand out in this crowded digital landscape.

Models – Magazine

Back in 2011, I sparked an idea that would eventually evolve into a unique magazine, primarily in a website and digital format. I recognised that websites offered an excellent way to index and catalogue a collection, serving as essential tools for organising editorial content in a manner that’s easily accessible to search engines. However, I soon realised that standing out amidst the vast digital landscape posed numerous design challenges.

The magazine concept gave me a creative edge, providing a blank canvas to design compelling content that not only captured attention but also inspired readers to share it with others. There was a thrill in creating something visually striking and engaging that would resonate with an audience.

Models – Evolution

In many respects, the journey toward producing a physical copy of the magazine was an inevitable evolution—just a matter of time. My vision was clear: I aimed to create a magazine that would complement fashion events, serving as a dynamic platform for designers to showcase their work and for models to shine. I am proud to say that this vision materialised into reality, and thus, “Catwalk Diaries” magazine was born—an initiative that successfully bridges the gap between the digital realm and the vibrant world of fashion.

Models – Content

Generating revenue from a magazine is crucial for its survival; this principle holds true across most advertising media. However, this necessity posed a significant challenge from both a professional and a moral standpoint. I understood that without a viable income stream, the existence of the magazine itself would be in jeopardy. The tension between the need for financial support and the integrity of the publication created a complex dilemma, one that weighed heavily on my mind as I navigated the landscape of monetisation.

Free

We respect the sense of community that surrounds the modelling industry, and as an organisation, we aspire to give back to the very industry that has embraced us so warmly. In our efforts to support emerging talent, we are pleased to offer complimentary inclusion in our projects whenever possible. However, these opportunities are primarily reserved for models who boast a huge social media following, as their influence allows us to enhance our brand visibility.

With that in mind, we have carefully structured our pricing to be accessible for entry-level models. For just £300, you can secure a 6-page editorial feature in one of our print magazines, along with a digital version and exposure on our website. We believe this pricing represents a valuable opportunity for models to showcase their work and gain substantial industry exposure.

*Prices are accurate as of September 2025.

Models – Designers

Designers have capitalised on the visibility provided by printed magazines, with models gracefully displaying their creations under the expert eye of professional photographers. To further support these designers, we have broadened our £300 editorial offer to them as well. If their presence across social media platforms is substantial, we are willing to waive the fee, taking into account the level of exposure generated. This initiative not only highlights their designs but also amplifies their reach in the digital landscape.

Content

As our brands continue to expand and develop, we’ve come to recognise that we’ve organically transformed into a significant source of content within the fashion landscape. While we aspire for our print edition to become widely accessible in the future, it currently exists as an independent publication through a print-on-demand service. In the meantime, we are proud to offer our website and digital formats as complementary resources, reinforcing our commitment to giving back to the vibrant fashion community we cherish.

Models – Worldwide

No matter where you are in the world, we are excited to offer you the opportunity to participate in a conference call for an exclusive editorial interview. Our goal is to compose something truly unique and noteworthy that you can proudly share with your audience.

As part of our £300 offer, you will receive a complimentary teaser trailer explicitly tailored for your editorial. We will also provide you with embed codes that you can seamlessly integrate into your website, along with direct links for your Instagram profile. Additionally, we’ll create a convenient QR code for your smartphone, making it easy for you to share your editorial with your network.

“Our best advert is the models who have featured in our magazine publications“.

How much does podcast production cost?

The cost of producing a podcast is set at £90, which is required to be paid in advance of your recording session at the studio. This fee covers all the necessary resources and services to create a professional-quality podcast. It includes a unique and professionally designed-sized Spotify podcast sleeve.

What is the process for recording a podcast?

Before your scheduled recording, we will send you a personalised link to access the virtual studio. Additionally, we provide a brief instructional video designed to help you achieve optimal sound quality during your recording. Our dedicated team is here to assist you throughout the entire process, ensuring you feel comfortable and confident.

Will I receive a copy of the recording?

Unfortunately, you will not receive a direct copy of your recording. Instead, we publish the podcast episodes on several popular platforms. However, you will have the option to share the recordings through provided links or to embed a player into your own website or email newsletters. We will supply all the necessary embed codes to make sharing your podcast easy and accessible.

    How is a podcast structured?

Nobody likes to listen to an advert, so we focus on the person behind the message. This is designed like a life story, generating interest.

    Do you use a camera?

    Is this content?

Absolutely, we provide you with a tool that can be used whenever you need to use it on social media and your website.

Can I combine a magazine with a podcast?

We offer a unique opportunity to create a standalone editorial in a digital/print magazine that prominently features your content. From £300, we will handle everything from writing to production, ensuring your digital publication is polished and professional. An inset QR code will direct people to your podcast, available in both print and digital formats.

As a bonus, we create a visually engaging teaser trailer that presents your magazine editorial in a captivating flip-book style, alongside a teaser for your podcast. This approach not only highlights your content but also entices potential listeners and readers alike.

    Vanity - Reflections Of Self

    Vanity

Vanity, often regarded as one of the seven deadly sins, is defined by an excessive belief in one’s own importance. This trait manifests as an overwhelming fixation on personal appearance, where individuals become preoccupied with how they present themselves to the world. They often find themselves ceaselessly comparing their looks, achievements, and lives to those of others, driven by a desire for admiration and validation.

Those who grapple with vanity frequently seek out external praise, believing it reflects their worth. This quest for admiration can lead to superficial relationships and an insatiable hunger for recognition. Moreover, vanity breeds a sense of superiority, causing individuals to view themselves as better than others, which can result in isolation and a lack of empathy.

    Vanity – Identity

Understanding vanity is crucial as it highlights the importance of self-awareness and encourages a more humble approach to personal worth, steering individuals away from the toxic allure of self-obsession and toward a more grounded sense of identity.

    Past Vs Present

In a time long ago, there existed a physical space that promoted genuine interactions and connections, however, we both understand how the advent of social media has transformed the landscape. Today, vanity has increasingly morphed into a lucrative enterprise, overshadowing mere self-expression with the pursuit of profit and influence.

If this is the case, then our magazine must admit to a certain degree of collusion in this trend. Our distinctive and signature content is starting to resonate with a growing audience, particularly among celebrities, influencers, and businesses who are now in search of alternatives to the cookie-cutter formats that dominate social media—those posts, reels, and stories that follow rigid templates and fail to convey authenticity. Our content offers a refreshing escape, inviting creativity and individuality in a world that often values conformity.
