Julia Kmieć – Childhood Memories

What sparked your initial interest in modelling, and how did your journey begin?

My interest in modelling started very early. As a child, I was obsessed with fashion. I would buy Barbie dolls, collect outfits and organise runway shows on a tiny plastic catwalk I convinced my parents to buy. It felt natural to me even then. Growing up in Poland, people constantly told me that I would become a model one day. I heard it so often that it stopped surprising me.

When I moved abroad, the same thing kept happening. In London, a woman in a store approached me and asked if I was a model. In New York, strangers would stop me on the street, start conversations and assume I was already working in the industry. I’ve always believed that the universe places people on our path to reflect something we already carry inside. For me, it was the modelling potential I felt intuitively since childhood.

Julia Kmieć – Profile

A few months ago, three different people approached me within ten minutes in London with the same question. That moment made everything click. I realised I didn’t want to wait for “another sign”. I already had enough of them. So I finally took the step I had been circling around for years. I created a profile, started building my portfolio and began collaborating with photographers. It felt like the beginning of something I should have done long ago.

Reactions

Can you describe the moment you realised that you wanted to pursue this career full-time?

The realisation came when I noticed that other people kept recognising something in me before I ever officially presented myself as a model. Their reactions aligned perfectly with the feeling I’d had since I was a little girl.

It wasn’t one specific moment, but rather an accumulation of many small ones. One day, I woke up and understood that modelling wasn’t just a “maybe someday” idea anymore. It was something I genuinely wanted to commit to with full intention.

The moment I started my first collaborations and saw how naturally I moved in front of the camera, it became clear that this was the path I was meant to follow. I felt a sense of purpose, confidence and excitement that I had not experienced anywhere else. That was when I decided to pursue modelling with full commitment and trust that this is the career where I can reach my highest potential.

Julia Kmieć – PhD

How do you balance your modelling career with your studies in engineering and plans for a PhD?

I’m finishing my engineering studies soon, so I’m currently focused on exams and my thesis. But in my mind, modelling doesn’t conflict with my academic path. I’ve always been good at organisation, and I know how to manage my time when something truly matters to me.

My plan is to continue into a PhD in cosmetic chemistry, which actually complements modelling beautifully. I want to build a strong scientific foundation for my future beauty brand while also growing my presence in the fashion world. I imagine both paths merging into one, with me being the creator and the face of my own products. For me, having more than one direction has always been a strength, not a limitation.

Challenge

What has been the most challenging experience you’ve faced in the fashion industry so far, and how did you overcome it?

One of my early TFP collaborations became challenging when the photographer started subtly trying to control my styling and push his preferences on what I should post. It felt as if the collaboration shifted into me “working for him”, even though it was supposed to be equal.

Because I was new, I think he assumed he could easily influence me. But I’m someone with very clear boundaries. I recognised the dynamic quickly, spoke up and ended the collaboration. It reminded me of how important it is to protect your energy, your image and your intuition from the very beginning.

Striking Elegance

In your opinion, what does it mean to embody “striking elegance”? How do you interpret that in your work?

For me, it’s just an energy. It isn’t taught. It’s something you carry in the way you move, the way you look at someone, the way you speak and the subtle movements you make in front of the camera. Every model interprets elegance differently, and that’s what keeps this industry interesting.

I know the kind of energy I bring. It’s soft but strong, calm but expressive. I’m always looking for photographers who are able to capture that balance and turn it into a visual story.

Julia Kmieć – Style

Who or what inspires your modelling style and approach to fashion?

Kendall Jenner is such a big inspiration. There’s something about her presence that feels effortless but powerful at the same time. I’ve always admired her ability to stay grounded while navigating such a demanding industry.

She’s someone I naturally resonate with. I see small reflections of myself in her path and the way she carries herself. She is my comfort zone in the world of fashion, someone whose work and energy always push me forward.

Preparation

How do you prepare for a shoot, both mentally and physically?

I start preparing early, a few days before a shoot. I create moodboards, look through inspirations, plan outfits and makeup, and visualise the whole vibe in my head. The night before a shoot, I like to slow down. I do skincare, light a candle, pour a glass of wine, and watch something relaxing. I bring myself into a calm, grounded state because I know the camera picks up everything.

On the day of the shoot, I dedicate the entire day to the experience. I get ready without rushing, arrive early, focus entirely during the session, and afterwards I text with a photographer and eventually discuss ideas for the next one. I love treating shoots as rituals rather than tasks.

Julia Kmieć – Modelling

What role do authenticity and self-expression play in your modelling?

A huge one. Probably it won’t be a surprise, but I wasn’t always the person I am today. I grew from a quiet, insecure girl into a confident woman with a clear vision. That transformation shapes the energy I bring into modelling.

Authenticity matters to me because there is no other model with my story, personality or emotional evolution. There may be many beautiful women in this industry, but none of them bring what I bring. My energy, my story and the way I express myself create something that can’t be replicated.

Portfolio

As you build your portfolio, what types of collaborations are you most interested in exploring?

For now, I want to explore everything. Every setting teaches me something new: outdoor shoots, studio shoots, creative styling, beauty sessions, and fashion editorials. I’ve already worked as a makeup model, posed in studio environments and shot in natural locations.

I want to keep experimenting because every photographer brings a different vision, energy and vibe. And this is exactly what helps you grow.

Julia Kmieć – Goals

What are your long-term goals in the fashion industry, and how do you envision your future in both modelling and cosmetic chemistry?

I believe my biggest goal is to become a Victoria’s Secret model because the brand places strong emphasis on beauty. I’ve always shared this dream with my friends, and they’ve been incredibly supportive. I want to work in the high-fashion world, walk runways, participate in fashion weeks, and be part of the community of top supermodels. I truly believe I am capable of achieving this because I know my determination, and when I set my mind on something, I always accomplish it.

As I mentioned, I also want to launch a beauty brand with myself as its face. I am very focused on my chemistry career because I care deeply about quality and uniqueness. I hope my knowledge, passion, and experience in the beauty industry through modelling will help me create something truly mine.

That is why authenticity and self-expression are so important to me. These values will distinguish me and my brand and ultimately help me reach the top.
